Decades ago, they ended up in St. Pauli, looking for work and a different, unconventional kind of life. They eked out an existence as dancers and strippers, barkeeps, sailors and pimps. These denizens of the red light district meet up at their favourite watering holes in broad daylight - the “Hong Kong”, the “Utspann” and the “Kaffeepause” (coffee break) – to reminisce about the old day. They tell tales of prospecting for gold, sinking ships and contraband crocodiles. And of course the savings clubs, of which they are still members, even though they’re not the savings type. They’ve found a safe harbour here; one they dock in every day.
